Day 20: Way Maker

By: Petia Anaya

Have you ever been in a situation where you look at your circumstances, and you are simply overwhelmed by all of your problems? I know I have…I remember a particularly challenging time in our business and finances, where things were difficult and no matter what we tried to do to make things happen, nothing happened. We fell behind on our mortgage, and foreclosure was on the horizon. The refrigerator was empty again with a little one to feed. I remember sitting overwhelmed talking to the Lord and telling him that I truly did understand now how the Israelites felt sitting by the Red Sea waiting to be slaughtered just like the story in Exodus.

Exodus chapter 14 tells the amazing story of how the children of Israel crossed the Red Sea. The Lord sent Moses to deliver the children of Israel from the land of bondage to the land of promise, but Pharaoh would not let them go. The Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh, so that through many miracles not just the children of Israel would know that God is God, but the Egyptians themselves would acknowledge the He is God. When Pharaoh finally allowed the Jews to go into the wilderness to worship, he quickly changed his mind:

Exodus 14: 8 – 10
And the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued the children of Israel; and the children of Israel went out with boldness. So the Egyptians pursued them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, his horsemen and his army, and overtook them camping by the sea beside Pi Hahiroth, before Baal Zephon. 10 And when Pharaoh drew near, the children of Israel lifted their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians marched after them. So they were very afraid, and the children of Israel cried out to the Lord.

I understood their fear and hopelessness. But then suddenly I heard a small voice speak and give me a promise…” I will make a way, where there is no way.” I held on to that promise and over the months that followed our family saw one of the most amazing breakthroughs take place.

What situation, problem or pain is keeping you up at night or stealing your peace? No matter what it is, surrender it into the hands of the Way-Maker. Just like the Lord split the Red Sea, allowed the Israelites to cross on dry land, and then drowned Pharaoh’s army, He is ready to do the same in YOUR life. He is well able to do it, so trust him and hold your peace.

Exodus 14: 13-14
13 And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation[b] of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. 14 The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold[c] your peace.”

Prayer
Father, I thank you that YOU are the Way-Maker. You hold our lives and circumstances in the palm of your hand, and there is nothing too great or impossible for you. Thank you making a way for us where there seems to be no way. Thank you for causing springs of living water to come up when we feel we are in the desert. You are our healer and deliverer. Thank you for turning things around not just for You to be glorified in our lives, but also for non-believers to see your goodness and power.  We trust you and stand firm in Your peace. In Jesus’s Name. Amen.
