Psalm 100 says
“Make a joyful noise to the LORD,
all the earth.
Serve the LORD with gladness;
come into His presence with joyful songs.
Know that the LORD is God.
It is He who made us, and we are His;
we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture.
Enter His gates with thanksgiving
and His courts with praise;
give thanks to Him and bless His name.
For the LORD is good,
and His loving devotion endures forever;
His faithfulness continues to all generations.”
Have you ever heard the phrase “Is God calling you deeper?”
I am here to tell you- the answer to this question is always a resounding “YES!”
He never wants less time with you, never wants you further from his heart, never wants you to feel a lack of peace. So, stop asking yourself that! And if someone else asks you, reply, “OF COURSE! And he’s calling you deeper too!” You don’t have to feel it, you don’t have to be given a word of knowledge or prophetic vision. Enter into “His presence with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God.”
I have been reading a book talking about the idea of “quiet time.” I agree with the author- we have so idealized “quiet time” in our Instagram- picture perfect culture that we think if we don’t sit down with Jesus at 5 am with our coffee or tea in our comfy armchair will all the highlighters and devotionals that we are somehow MISSING it. Do you know what is mentioned NOWHERE in the Bible? Quiet time.
Fasting, praying, trusting Him, breaking bread with other believers, hiding God’s word in our hearts and following it- these are all things that ARE mentioned, and quite often. So, if your time with Him isn’t always quiet and isn’t always picture worthy- it’s still time with Him and that’s okay. He wants to know you and be known by you. “For the Lord is good. His loving devotion endures forever; His faithfulness continues to all generations.” He is devoted to us!!! He is good to us!!! His faithfulness always endures.
So, as we press further into our fast, spending even more time with Him, don’t get caught up in the how or let the enemy distract you with a picture of perfection that doesn’t exist- remember the why. Because “It is He who made us, and we are His;”
