Day 3: To Wait

The story that God weaves in the Bible is so detailed, so intricate, it is impossible to sum up in a daily devotion or simple quote. But if I tried, my message would simply be Jesus….Holy Spirit…He, the creator of all things and father of the universe, knew what we needed. He promised He would send a Savior, and He did. He promised he would send a Helper, and He did. For God so loved the world so much….he gave his only son, then that only son brought us news so good- God alive in us- if we just confess with our mouths and believe in our hearts in the work of Jesus (Romans 10:9). 

Then we look around. We see Him in the beauty of sunset, we taste him in the sweetness of our favorite chocolate cake (sorry I know that one is ill-timed but it’s true!)- He IS good. His word says so too!  (1 Chronicles 16:34 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever;  Psalm 34:8 Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.) 

Sin, death, destruction, the enemy prowling around like a roaring lion looking for someone, anyone, to devour? Not so good. 

But, if we confess and believe, we have hope! Our hope is in him.  Romans 15:13-15:  Our hope comes from God. May He fill you with joy and peace because of your trust in Him. May your hope grow stronger by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Psalm 27:14 says “Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.”  

The Hebrew word qavah, often translated wait, means “to wait, look for, hope, expect.” In this season of fasting, we aren’t just contending for revival, for loved ones to come to know Christ or for our prayers to be answered. As we press in and our “hope grows stronger by the power of the Holy Spirit,” we are EXPECTING, ANTICIPATING the answers that we know WILL be answered. So, not only does our hope come from Him, but we can wait in EXPECTATION that he is going to show up AND we will be strengthened in the process!  

Prayer

Father, as we wait on you and contend for revival, lives saved across the globe and in our cities, increase our expectation, increase our hope and strengthen us through the power of your Holy Spirit.
